Welcome

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We are excited to announce the upcoming FEBS Advanced Lecture Course: “Emerging Insights from Structural Biology into Molecular Mechanisms of Diseases,” scheduled to take place from May 27-31, 2025, in the beautiful city of Groningen, the Netherlands.

In recent years, the field of structural biology has made remarkable progress. The resolution achievable with cryo-EM and cryo-ET has reached 1.15 and 2.3 Å, respectively, providing spectacular insights into the organization of large macromolecular complexes. Structure prediction through AI has become a well-integrated method, and entire cells are now being modeled using MD simulations. These breakthroughs offer unprecedented insights into molecular interactions, ushering in a new era of understanding chemical processes within cells and facilitating the development of novel therapeutics. We believe that now is the perfect time to come together to share recent discoveries and discuss the future directions of structural biology.

This advanced lecture course is aimed at young researchers, including PhD students and postdocs, who will have the opportunity not only to learn about the latest findings from experts in the field but also to present their own research (as posters and selected oral presentations). We are committed to fostering an open and inclusive atmosphere, with ample opportunities for informal interactions.

We look forward to seeing you in Groningen!

Best regards,

Dirk Slotboom, Katharina Dürr, and Albert Guskov
